Understanding CT Scan

A CT scan, or computed tomography, is a painless and non-invasive medical procedure used by physicians to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. It utilizes a specialized X-ray beam to generate detailed cross-sectional views of the targeted area, which can then be examined digitally or in print. CT scans are often the preferred method for diagnosing sources of pain and detecting various forms of cancer, offering superior clarity compared to conventional X-ray examinations.

Preparation for a CT Scan

It’s advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing and remove any jewelry, eyeglasses, dentures, or hairpins that could interfere with the imaging process. Depending on your examination, you may need to fast for several hours beforehand, especially if contrast material will be administered. Inform your physician about any medications you’re taking and disclose any allergies.
